Here’s Kayleigh Platz, Communitech’s Community Relations Manager representin’ with the ME postcards. If you don’t know Communitech, you should know that they are our global nexus of business, living their name and “helping tech companies start, grow and succeed.” There are a whole lot of great collaborators, makers, innovators down here at the corner of Victoria and Charles Streets in Kitchener. In addition helping tech companies, this place is full of multi-discipline makers in their own right, and that’s reflected on the very walls of the Hub. Before I could even finish my 2-minute Maker Expo pitch to Communitech CEO Iain Klugman, he said “How can I help?” That’s characteristic of Iain, of his organization, and of Waterloo Region. Gettin’ stuff done. I’ll take pause here for the MEssage of the day:
Our posse will be setting up a pop-up Maker Expo sign-up station in the Communitech Hub this Thursday (June 18) from 11:30am to 1:30pm. We’re going to have a few makerly things for you to do. We’re happy to help you figure out how you are a maker. And we’re doubly happy to help you apply to participate in Maker Expo yourself. The event at Kitchener City Hall is a ways off on Sept 19, but our due date for maker applications is Canada Day, July 1. Amplify your fun by participating.
Hey, if you don’t connect with us on Thursday, we’ll be out in force and with more makerly things to do at Saturday’s Summer Lights Festival in Downtown Kitchener. We’re co-located in the old Entertaining Elements space (179 King St West, Kitchener) with our pals from kwartzlab and the gang from Communitech. Runs from 8pm to 1am.
You say you’re busy that night, my friend. Well, Ravi and I are going to be running a table at the Cambridge Arts Festival on Saturday morning (June 20), so come by and say hello at 50 Dickson St in Cambridge.
If you’re in Hamilton on Sunday, you can catch our table and smiling faces at the Hamilton Mini Maker Faire (June 21, 11am-5pm). Seems like we’re almost everywhere.
Again, a massive Maker Expo thank you to Communitech for giving us not only cash, but a place to sign up makers, and a commitment to engage in the Expo itself with the many makers among their ranks.
